What Is MDF?
MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) is an engineered wood panel manufactured by bonding wood fibers with resin under high heat and pressure. The result is a dense, uniform panel with no grain direction, no knots, and no voids. Key properties include:
- Perfectly flat and smooth — factory surface requires no sanding before primer or paint
- No grain direction — routes, cuts, and machines consistently in all directions
- Uniform density — consistent screw-holding and machining characteristics throughout the panel
- Superior paint surface — the best substrate for painted cabinet doors and furniture panels
- Cost-effective — lower price per sheet than solid wood or premium plywood for painted applications
MDF Types We Carry
Standard MDF
The most widely used MDF type for interior cabinet doors, furniture panels, shelving, and architectural moldings. Available in CARB2-compliant formulations for commercial cabinet work. The industry-standard choice for painted cabinet door production in South Florida.
Moisture-Resistant MDF (MR MDF)
Engineered with moisture-resistant additives for use in high-humidity environments — kitchen and bath cabinets, laundry rooms, and South Florida’s year-round humid climate. Identified by its green-tinted core. Strongly recommended for cabinet work in South Florida’s coastal environment.
Fire-Rated MDF
Available for commercial projects requiring Class A or Class B fire-rated panel specifications. Contact us for current availability on fire-rated MDF grades for commercial cabinet and millwork projects.

Frequently Asked Questions — MDF Miami
Is MDF suitable for South Florida’s humidity?
Standard MDF can absorb moisture in high-humidity environments and swell at edges. For South Florida cabinet work — especially kitchens, bathrooms, and any space without consistent air conditioning — we recommend Moisture-Resistant (MR) MDF. Its green-tinted core indicates the moisture-resistant resin additive. Call us to confirm MR MDF availability.
Does your MDF meet CARB2 emissions standards?
Yes. We stock CARB2-compliant MDF. California Air Resources Board Phase 2 compliance is the current US standard for formaldehyde emissions and is required for most commercial cabinet projects. Documentation available on request.
What thickness MDF do cabinet makers use for doors?
3/4″ (19mm) is the standard thickness for cabinet doors. 1/2″ is used for thinner door profiles and some furniture panels. 1/4″ is used for drawer bottoms and back panels.
Can you deliver MDF to cabinet shops in Hialeah and Doral same day?
