Hardwood Plywood Species Guide — Choosing the Right Panel
Maple Plywood
Hard maple is the workhorse of the cabinet shop. Its tight, uniform grain takes paint beautifully and machines cleanly without tearout. We stock maple in A1/A2 grades with veneer core, combo core (for flat doors), and MDF core (for painted doors that must be dead-flat). MDF-core maple is especially popular for slab-front contemporary cabinetry.
Cherry Plywood
American cherry darkens beautifully with age and UV exposure, making it a favorite for heirloom-quality furniture and traditional cabinetry. We stock A1 and A2 cherry with veneer and MDF core. Cherry faces are naturally variable — we can pull matched-grain bundles for large projects requiring visual consistency across many panels.
White Oak Plywood
White oak has surged in popularity with the rise of Scandinavian and contemporary design. We stock both plain-sliced A1/A2 and rift & quartered faces — the latter showing the dramatic ray fleck pattern that designers specify for hospitality and high-end residential. Teak Plywood

Douglas Fir Plywood
Douglas Fir is a premium softwood decorative face veneer applied over hardwood plywood panels — ideal for architectural paneling, exposed ceiling panels, and feature walls where a warm, straight-grain appearance is specified. We supply States Industries Douglas Fir panels with veneer core, ArmorCore™ hybrid core, and composite (MDF) core in HPVA grades AA, A, and B. Sizes: 4×8 standard, 4×10 available.
